PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Project Management is an application of knowledge, skills and techniques for which to execute projects effectively and efficiently using strategic competency for organizations, enabling them to connect project results to business goals. This module’s aim is to develop management skills for the students in the ever growing subject called Project Management. Informally been practiced in many aspects of work, but began to emerge as a distinct profession in the mid- 20th century.
This module introduces students to the principles, techniques and managerial issues, which form the process of project management. The area of study will focus in particular on project management in a construction context but will also make considerable reference to the activity in other fields of commercial and business activity to emphasize the broad applicability of the principle.
PROJECT 1 : DEFINING AND DOCUMENTING A PROJECT
This project introduces students to the definition of project management by working on a model of a project as a case study. The students will be introduced to the roles of Clients, Consultants and Contractors and other stakeholders involved in a project life cycle. They will learn how to identify project objectives and goals while understanding the implementation strategies to achieve a satisfactory project completion.
In a group of six, we are required to identify an actual project managed by an Architect as the lead consultant. The project must emphasize on COST, QUALITY or TIME, with a measurable ‘success criteria’.
REFLECTION
From this project, I had understand the application of management techniques in the control and direction of project resources and also the basic stages of project management & roles of the different consultants in the construction industry, Not only that I had understand the success criteria in evaluating a project.
PROJECT 2 : FINAL PROJECT MANAGEMENT REPORT
This involves the documentation of your Studio Vl Architectural Design Project, to apply the principles learned in Assignment 1 to your final project. Students from Design Studio lV or V will use their design in Studio lV or V for the study. Objectives
REFLECTION
Through this project, I can define project characteristics, objectives, organizations and success and also apply Project Management tools and techniques to control and communicate to achieve a common goal. Besides, summarize strategies for the execution of the development process in response to the client's objectives.
