DESIGN COMMUNICATION

Design Communication aims to provide us with the knowledge of sketching, drawing, and drafting skills necessary for effective communication with people, especially the clients in the future. In this module, all drawings are done manually.

Anchor 1

PROJECT 1 : On-site sketching and Tonal Values

project 1

A first-hand conscious experience is important in the understanding and articulation of space. This assessment introduced us to visualization and expression of space through on-site sketching activity on campus. We are required to develop our skills in creating depth and tone in a sketch, and thus refining and enhancing the ability to produce an architectural sketch that is legible.

The purpose of the project is for me to understand the notion of space in architecture and notion detailing's in architecture and objects. Besides, I need to develop skills in visualizing of space through observation and perception of a given site, skills in sketching as a mode of communication, skills in communicating the above in various tonal and depth values and lastly to develop various techniques of hatching through different medium.

REFLECTION

From this project, I learned various type of techniques to complete my assignments. I should improve my skills in sketching.

To bring order and relation into human surroundings is the task of an architect. - Steen Eiler Rasmussen

The main aim of Project 2 is to expand the interpretation of the users by exploring the relationships between human body and designed form. We as the users will define the intention of the space and its form based on their personality and human body. This project divided into two parts.

Part 1

We are required to generate plans, sections, elevations of  a drafting table

Part 2

For part 2, we are required to generate : (Ex of In house)

- 1 ground floor plan

- 4 elevations (front, back, left & right elevations)

- 1 cross-section

- 1 longitudinal section

- 1 site plan

REFLECTION

PROJECT 2 (b)

Axonometric drawing is an excellent method of communicating and expressing an architectural idea – be it as a diagram at a fairly early stage of the design process (ie. conceptual expression) or as a presentation aid upon finalization of your design.

We are required to generate :

- external axonometric

- exploded axonometric

REFLECTION

I think architecture, to be really intense and fulfilling, doesn't have to be large. - Steven Holl

PROJECT 2 : Orthographic projections (EX OF IN HOUSE , STEVEN HOLL)

PROJECT 2 (a) : Orthographic projections: plans, sections, elevations

PROJECT 2 (c) : Perspectives

We are required to generate :

- one exterior perspective (two-point)

-one sectional interior perspective (onepoint)

REFLECTION

From this project, I understand of the architectural detail and spatial value of the Ex of In House.

PROJECT 3 : Integrated with Design Studio 1

project 3

Project 3 is part of Architectural Design Studio 1, in which we were to produce technical drawings such as plans, elevations, axonometric projection of our space . All drawings are presented on A2 boards.

REFLECTION

From this project, I was able to visually communicate ideas and own design to others clearly. Besides, I could understand my skill set and strengths through this project.
